Lion Phil White: "It was a very humbling and emotional experience but one we would gladly repeat."

Castle Bromwich & District Lions sometimes work in collaboration with other Lions, particularly, although not exclusively, members of other Lions clubs in District 105M. This year Lions from all over the District took over the role of officials at the Disability Games held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. They were judges, marshals, medal presenters, scorers, and even the commentary box was completely manned by Lions.

Lion Phil White comments, "Tony and I assisted with, amongst other things, the wheel chair users bean bag throwing. The contestants had to throw bean bags over a high jump bar, which was then raised after each round. Many of them had motor problems and the effort that went into doing something that the rest of us take for granted was incredible. To see the joy on the faces of the young people competing, especially in the track events, was reward enough for giving up our Sunday. Win or lose there were big smiles and hugs everywhere, despite their disabilities, and many of them were just happy to be taking part. It was a very humbling and emotional experience but one we would gladly repeat."
