Lions at Christmas

Father Christmas has a busy time

Every year Father Christmas makes time in his busy schedule to help us raise money for good causes. He tells us why he's happy to help.

"I can see the young children with their parents walking between the shops, and it only takes a wave from me to instantly to get a reaction, a wave back, a sparkle in the eyes, a smile on the face, and a tug on their parent's arm telling them that Santa is here."

Q: What does Christmas mean to you?

A: For me, Christmas is a really important part of the year. It's a time for friendship, a time for giving and helping, a time for being with family, and of course, it's a very special time for children.

Q: What do you find most rewarding about helping the Lions?

A: The best reward is to see children's faces as they see me. I can see the young children with their parents walking between the shops, and it only takes a wave from me to instantly get a reaction, a wave back, a sparkle in the eyes, a smile on the face, and a tug on their parent's arm telling them that Santa is here. They are often brought up to me, and then they tell me what they want for Christmas. It really helps me to get the right presents to them on Christmas Day. I also get enormous satisfaction in being able to assist the Lions in their fundraising efforts and in raising the awareness of the great work they do.

Q: Do you help the Lions in any other ways?

A: Well, I bring some of my helpers with me, particularly the Elves. They take turns along with the Lions at standing with collecting buckets for any donations passers by might like to give. Thanks to the generosity of the public, they do very well and a number of good causes benefit as a result.
